My name is Amanda Genest I was born in
Lethbridge Alberta,
but raised in Calgary Alberta.
I have been artistic for as long as I can remember,
at the age of 14 I took up photography on a family holiday.
The first photo I took time to plan was of a lighthouse on the Oregon
coast.
When we got the film back no one could believe that I took the photo,
they thought it was a postcard and ever since then,
I've been in love with photography. Photography just seems right to me.

I have been taking photography classes ever since I was sixteen.
In high school they offered a Communication Technology class, were I learned to use a
35mm film camera, a darkroom and developing my own prints. I loved all 3 years
of it.
After high school I went to SAIT (Southern Alberta Institute of Technology) where
I
enrolled in Journalism Arts which is quite funny cause anyone that knows me
knows that I'm not a big fan of writing. I graduated with a 3.51
G.P.A. in May 2005.
One of my happiest memories at SAIT was when the class
had to enter their favorite photos into a photo contest.
It is an annual contest for Photolife magazine.
The Student Special 2005 had 40 photos, from different schools
from all over Canada and USA.
I was one of the lucky ones to have their photo
in the magazine along
with 3 other classmates of mine.
This is the photo that was published.
Life always has a way of changing...
